Reconciliation (Penance, Confession)The Sacrament of Reconciliation was instituted by Jesus on Easter Sunday, when Christ first appeared to the apostles after his Resurrection. Breathing on them, he said: "Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained." John 20: 22-23 The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered at St. Susanna on Saturday at 10 a.m. or by appointment. To make an appointment, please contact the Parish Office. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, communal celebrations of the sacrament are available at St. Susanna Church and throughout the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. |
First Reconciliation Preparation for Children
First Reconciliation preparation is designed to prepare children for this healing and forgiving encounter with Christ. All children who wish to receive First Communion must first prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation.
Preparing your child for the sacraments is a partnership between family and parish. The National Directory for Catechesis requires that parents also take an active part in the child's formation. First Reconciliation is generally celebrated in the 2nd grade. Two consecutive years of religious education are require, i.e., 1st grade is a prerequisite. First Reconciliation is usually scheduled as a Penance Service in late Winter - early Spring.
Children who have not participated in the Sacrament of Eucharist and have not been enrolled in religious education classes may be eligible for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) program. RCIC refers to the catechumenal process for children as a whole who are between the ages of 7 and 14 who have not been baptized or who are baptized but have not received their First Holy Communion. RCIC is open to parishioners and non-parishioners who are in need of preparation for these Sacraments and/or for reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Whether you are just entering the Church, returning after time away or have decided to delay your children's sacramental preparation, please know you are welcome! Enrollment for RCIA occurs simultaneously with enrollment for Religious Education (Pre-K - 5th Grade and Middle School). All new students are asked to supply a copy of their baptismal certificate if they have been baptized. For more information, please contact the Coordinator of Children's Faith Formation.
We delight in sharing this blessed time with your family and pray that you will be enriched by your experience. For more information, please contact the Coordinator of Children's Faith Formation.
First Reconciliation Preparation for Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. For more information, please contact the Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation.
